ONE OF MY FAVORITE CHRISTMAS songs began to play on the radio while driving to work.
I have traveled many moonless nights
Cold and weary with a babe inside
And I wonder what I’ve done
Holy Father you have come
And chosen me now
To carry your son
As I listened to Sara Groves sing Breath of Heaven by Amy Grant, my mind traveled to Bethlehem. Mary, a teenage girl at best, was chosen by God to carry His son. As the birth approached and the long trip took its toll on her, Mary wondered, “What have I done, Holy Father, that you have come and chosen me to carry your son?”
Just like Mary, each of us has been chosen by God to do something special for Him. Some of us have not discovered what that is yet. Some of us have figured it out, but like Mary, wonder if God has chosen us correctly for His task. Some of us don’t believe we are worthy enough to do what God is asking. And some of us have learned to trust God in all circumstances, whether we feel qualified or not, and have moved forward with doing what God has asked of us.
In Mary’s situation, even though she wondered if someone else should have taken her place, she succumbed to God’s will and offered herself wholly unto Him.
Breath of Heaven
Do you wonder as you watch my face
If a wiser one should have had my place
But I offer all I am
For the mercy of your plan
Help me be strong
What will you do when God lays His plans for you in your lap?
It is my prayer that you will trust God has chosen correctly and offer yourself unto Him as you begin your journey to Bethlehem.
