AFTER READING my confession about the iPhone in my last post, one of my friends from work asked me if I had seen the email “Wonder What Would Happen?” I told her I had not and asked her to send it to me. It really made me stop and think. I enjoyed it so much, I wanted to share it with you.
Wonder what would happen if we treated our Bible like we treat our phone? Would we…
- Carry it around in our pocket or purse
- Turn back to go get it if we forget it
- Flip through it several times a day
- Always look it over and read before going to bed for the night
- Use it to receive messages
- Treat it like we couldn’t live without it
- Give to our kids as gifts
- Use it as we travel
- Use it in case of emergency
Unlike our cell phones, we don’t have to worry about our Bible being disconnected because Jesus already paid the bill.
The Bible, the Word of God, contains all we will ever need to know about living life, loving people, and loving God. It equips us for all situations. Its pages are filled with golden nuggets that will enrich our days. It provides the only map that will lead us to the treasure awaiting us in our eternal home. The Bible is invaluable. It contains the living Word of God.
So, the next time you reach for your phone, think of the Bible and ask yourself, “Do I spend as much time in the Word as I do on my phone?” Then reconsider. Perhaps it’s time to put the phone down and pick up Bible.
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16, NIV)
Prayer: Dear Lord, Thank you for giving us your living word. May I shift my desires and covetousness from material things to eternal. Help me to spend more time reading and absorbing your wisdom. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
